Public policy forum

12-FEB-2004 - Assembly chair Jack Blaney spoke to the Public Policy Forum on Electoral Reform: The British Columbia Experiment.  The meeting took place February 12, 2004, at the Rideau Club in Ottawa. Among those present were Jacques Saada, the government House leader in Parliament, and Jean-Pierre Kingsley, Canada's chief electoral officer.  Minister Saada had previously expressed interest in the Assembly and its work.

08-FEB-2004 - Assembly members wind up Weekend 3 of their six-weekend Learning Phase. Their meetings start at 9 a.m., and end at noon at the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, 580 West Hastings Street, Vancouver. Open to public, but space is limited.

University of Calgary symposium

15-JAN-2004 - The Centre for the Study of Public Affairs and the Institute for Advanced Policy Research at the University of Calgary sponsor a symposium session on Electoral Reform. Panellists include Dr. Lisa Young, University of Calgary, moderator; Dr. Ken Carty, Research Director, Citizens Assembly on Electoral Reform; Dr. Louis Massicotte, Technical Advisor to the Minister of Electoral Reform in Quebec, and Dr. William Cross, Research Director, Commission on Legislative Democracy, New Brunswick. The event will be held Thursday January 15 at 7 p.m. in the University Club, Calgary. All are welcome. 11-JAN-2004 - Assembly members continue their Learning Phase. The agenda runs from 9 a.m. - noon at the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, 580 West Hastings Street, Vancouver. It's open to the public but space at the Wosk Centre is very limited. If you would like to attend, please register in advance by phoning the Assembly office at 604-660-1232 or by e-mailing us.

Vancouver Sun feature

10-JAN-2004 - The Vancouver Sun newspaper ran a major special feature on the Citizens' Assembly. The four-page package included photos and info on all 160 members, and a number of stories. The writer was reporter Neal Hall, who has covered the Assembly since the fall. The Assembly has asked for copyright permission to run the material on this website.

First meeting of Assembly

10-JAN-2004 - First meeting of the 160 Assembly members, to kick off their Learning Phase. Meetings are are open to the public, but space at the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue is very limited. If you would like to attend, please register in advance by phoning the Assembly office at 604-660-1232 or e-mail us. The Wosk Centre is at 580 West Hastings Street in downtown Vancouver. The agenda today runs from 9 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., and on Sunday January 11 from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
