spoiled ballot

A spoiled ballot (or vote) is a ballot paper which cannot be counted towards a candidate’s or party’s total vote because the ballot is incorrectly filled in or has marks or writing on it which break electoral rules for the validity of the ballot.  The more complicated the ballot, the higher the likelihood of spoiled ballots.
