Abstract
|
I strongly favour the mixed member proportional representation
system. I hope that it is the choice we are given in the referendum
next spring and I hope it will pass so that we can bring pendulum
politics to an end. [1 page]

It has been a privilege to watch you work so long and so
carefully on behalf of all British Columbians. Thank you.
I want to keep my message short and simple. In this province , and
indeed elsewhere in Canada we have put up with the first past the
post system for far too long. It is time to make a change so that
our legislaure is more representative of the various points of view
which are clearly evident in our election results. Lopsided and
unrepresentative majority governments are a recipe for disenchanted
voters, for wasteful destruction of the initatives of previous
administrations by their successors and for ongoing failure to have
a balanced set of social, economic and cultural policies for B.C.
Of the options available for change, I strongly favour the mixed
member proportional representation system. I hope that it is the
choice we are given in the referendum next spring and I hope it
will pass so that we can bring pendulum politics to an end once and
for all. May I add that if we can do this in B.C., can Ottawa be
far behind?
Thanks again.
