I believe the most important thing right now in Canadian
politics is the need for proportional representation [PR].
The almost dictatorial powers that have devolved to the
victorious parties in BC (and Canada) the past two or three
decades, in spite of receiving less than 50% of the votes cast,
cannot be argued to be a democracy. In the current
political economic and social climate, we need more than party
rants from the Legislature. We need alternative views and a
creative forum for discussion and long term programs. Only more
diversity (parties) in the Legislature will make this possible.
The result will be legislative continuity that we have not known
in the flip flop of antagonism between the two opposing party's
strategies, who dismantle and redirect the provinces priorities and
expenditures after each election.
