Abstract
We have to change the laws to the effect that all regions, (hopefully, a region, like a regional district, equals an electoral area), carry the same number of seats, never mind how many people live in that region. [2 pages]

I have tried for years to get Ottawa to change the election laws, without success. In view of this wasted effort, I can’t see that Victoria will implement any changes that ‘could’ affect political VIPs adversely. Although, I must admit, the Premier has been doing a lot of good so far.

What I would like to see is a much fairer system that assures equality to all. One would think such a simple request would be a natural in any form of democracy. Alas, it is not. Since the founding of this country, the east has dominated the west, and over the years, the south has succeeded dominating the north. The reason for this "dictatorship by the masses" is the one person, one vote approach to things. It may sound very democratic, but it is not. The result of this philosophy is evident in the fact that only a small portion of eligible voters still bother to vote. With the feds this let to the impossible position where the Liberals have 477 seats and of those about a dozen come from west of the Ontario border. In our province it has led, in election after election, to the sad fact that the Lower Mainland decides who runs the province. Since all the bums and freeloaders congregate to that place and demand, by their massive votes, that the remainder of the province pay their bills, and get what they want by voting for the government, the NDP, in this case, they were all a very happy family. We have to change the laws to the effect that all regions, (hopefully, a region, like a regional district, equals an electoral area), carry the same number of seats, never mind how many people live in that region.

Another very important aspect of the principles of democracy is to have a quorum. It is my understanding that most western democracies have just that. What would happen if only five percent of eligible voters go to the poles and these are all in the east, or in the south, if you will. Will they still demand to reign over all, of course, they will, and in their view, at least, they have every right to do so. Mandate a quorum. If fifty percent of eligible voters did not bother, the election is null and void.

These are the two main request that I have.

Good luck with you efforts.
