I support a Mixed Member Proportional [MMP] electoral
system. I support 50% riding candidate & 50% party
list seats. Also, fixed (by law) election
dates, every four years (and not be allowed to be changed by the
government in power. In order to get elected from a
party list, each party must receive at least 5% of the
votes.
All votes in the Assembly should be free votes.
Also, when a bill is defeated, I don't think the government should
fall. The bill in question would just not pass &
they would have to re-introduce it with more
consensus.
I feel very strongly about electoral reform as I have two
children in their late 20s who won't vote because they don't think
their vote counts. They don't like the idea of voting
out the existing government. I thing we need
proportional representation in order to get the younger Canadians
involved.
