I would like to state my support for an MMP voting system as opposed to an STV system because I favour a voting system that gives people a vote for a local representative and a party vote. I want a proportional representation voting system to be truly proportional, that is, for the number of votes a party receives to be truly reflected in the number of seats they receive in parliament, while retaining local representation. I believe an MMP system has proven to be successful in other democracies, to be easier for the average voter to understand, and to stand a greater chance of success in replacing our current system.

Currently, I often vote for one of the smaller parties which most closely represents my values, but this becomes a "throw away" vote because this party stands no chance of being elected. In the future, I would like my small-party vote to help that party achieve some voice in the provincial legislature, while still retaining my say over who represents my local contituency. I believe an MMP system best serves these goals.
