I have just read much of the paper published by the Free Your
Vote-Pro Rep Society. I’m very impressed by all the
work you have done and are doing. Thank you to each of you in the
Assembly.
For many years now I have been voting with my heart even though
I have known that it seems to many people that my vote
doesn’t count. I have been criticised for
‘splitting the vote’. But I
can’t go against my own conscience, my own heart.
Though my vote may not have been able to elect some one to
represent me and what I believe in, I have known that, in the long
term, my vote does count. At the very least, my vote is tallied and
recorded and expresses my political preference.
I would love to have my heartfelt vote count more immediately
and effectively, as would be possible in a MMP system.
It must be obvious to most in our province that our current
system is immature and predictably creates unbalanced governments.
As a society, we are gradually moving toward more consensual ways
of finding solutions to many of the problems in our communities.
Wouldn’t it be pleasant to develop a co-operative,
consensual way of governing our province.
I vote for MMP.
