1. I would
like to request that any change to our system
of electing our representatives does not mean that the
leaders of small special interest parties will
automatically get elected. This is the unfortunate
result of proportional representation systems. A
few people spread across the province could have enough
votes to elect one person and that one person would be
the party leader. This idea of combining votes for a
party, rather than a person means someone could stay in
party headquarters and run their campaign and not
represent any area, but automatically choose themselves
as the party representative.
2. Also
proportional representation will encourage
political parties based on race and religion. Do I want
someone to represent me as a citizen of Victoria or some
one to represent me as a white, Anglo-Saxon, Anglican
male? Do I want representation to be based on race and
religion? No.
3. I would
also like to suggest that any form of
proportional representation should require that a party
should get at least five percent of the vote to be
considered at all.
