Please give serious consideration to a Mixed Member Proportional
(MMP) voting system for BC, where electors select both a local
representative AND the party of their choice.
In the recent federal election, I found myself favouring a
candidate who held the values of the party of my choice -- except
that that candidate belonged to a different party.
The BC Liberal party demonstrates another instance where MMP can be
employed to best reflect the voter's actual choice -- since the BC
Liberals are comprised of numerous different parties, including
reform, conservatives and liberal candidates. MMP would allow
voters to select the candidate and the party that best
represents their polical leanings -- and these are not necessarily
the same.
As our nation knows, the politics in BC are volatile and extreme.
This is in part due to the fact that our political parties don't
share the policies of their federal counterparts: BC Liberals align
with the federal Conservatives; BC NDP align with the federal
Liberals. This results in provincial governments that do not
reflect voter intentions.
