I approve of approval voting.

The referendum question proposed by the Citizens' Assembly should allow for several alternative voting methods. In particular, it should include approval voting as candidate method for use in BC elections. The CA referendum process should be also designed as an approval vote since I'm sure that there may be more than one voting method which would receive approval by many voters in BC. Approval voting involves voting for all the candidates that you approve of. The candidate with the most votes wins. It is not susceptible to 'strategic voting'. The candidate with the broadest approval base wins (centrists not extremists get elected).

Generally, the candidate who won under approval voting did well amongst voters who only voted for one candidate as well as those who voted for more than one candidate. Approval voting is used by several national and international societies in their election of officers. The Secretary-General of the United Nations is selected by approval voting.

The counting process is simple. Existing voting machines could be easily modified to accomodate approval voting.
