Abstract
I favour a mixed member proportional system [MMP] which would introduce more parties into the BC Legislature.  Proportional representation will tend to restore debate since there will be a wider range of opinions represented. [1 page]

Submission Content
Having worked as a reference librarian in the BC Legislative library for 23 years and having researched proportinal representation I favour a mixed member proportional system [MMP].

Our current adversarial system leads us to vote against the government; seldom to vote for any platform. Because parties muzzle their backbenchers, there is much less chance for constructive debate than their was a century ago.

A system such as proportional representation which would introduce more parties into the Legislature, will tend to restore debate since there will be a wider range of opinion. Possibly there might even be a question period in which ideas are discussed rather than the other guy excoriated.

So please give us a renewed representative democracy by suggested a proportional system.
