Abstract

I would love to see BC adopt a mixed member proportional representation [MMP] system! Besides simply being a 'more fair' way to translate votes into seats in government, I am very much in favour of the side-effects of proportional representation: more equal representation of women and minorities in government (resulting in more attention for women's and minority issues, including poverty), less regional fragmentation and less voter apathy (why would a Green supporter in the interior bother voting under the current system?), and of course, smaller majorities and more vibrant opposition in the Legislature.

A pro rep system would also be a personal thrill for me, as I've voted for unlikely candidates in every election since I could vote and would really appreciate voting without the sensation of wasting my time.
