ACCEPTABILITY BALLOTING

Instead of complicated proportional voting systems, maybe we should have Acceptability votes.  The voter would simply mark his or her ballots with a computer readable mark after all the names and/or political affiliations acceptable to him or her. The highest automated tally would win.

There might also be a rule that a declared winner must be acceptable to 50 percent plus one of voters to represent the community.  If nobody scores that high there would have to be a runoff vote for the top two or three in a day at a later date.
