I would like to support an electoral change based on the MMP
(Mixed Member Proportional) system which has a proven track record
around the world.
I am tired of the unfair system now in place and want to give
democracy it's fullest opportunity. If thisis done justly, then all
minorities and political spectrums must be represented in our
parliament. More importantly local regions must be fairly
represented in the bigger picture. I believe that the other
proposed systems will have a higher rate of failure in BC and will
not pull us far enough away from the current first past the post
system. The chosen system needs to be easy to understand, to
implement and must be free of complicated policies.
I submit that the Citizens Assembly should throw out any notion of
using the proposed STV (Single Transferable Vote) or the inadequate
Preferential Plus systems. STV has already proven to be archaic and
backwards and as Julian West lays out, very complicated. We should
neither listen to Jim Nielsen, who represents the sector of
misrepresentation that we already have in BC. With his ideas, no
change would be possible and would in fact be a step into our dark
past.
Proportional Representation needs to be given the best chance at
success, therefore please submit my suggestion for MMP. This is by
far the most progressive choice.
Let's set an example for the rest of Provincial and Federal
Canada.
