I would like to give thanks for all the time and effort spent in
this very important process.
I would like to give my support to the New Zealand model of
proportional representation (Mixed Member Proportional, MMP). I
think this is the best way to give everyone in the Province a say
in how government is run.
I've voted for the Liberals and NDP in the past but none
represents my values. A lot of people don't vote because they don't
want to vote for the three big parties and they know that their
vote for a smaller party will just be wasted because small parties
will not get a seat in the legislative assembly.
Last election, I voted Green; they won 13% of the vote and not
one seat. This is a real shame because a lot of people have no one
representing them. I want my voice heard. I think we need a base
line of 10% for a party to get a seat but I think, once this is
done, so many more people will vote we will no longer have a party
with 58% of the vote and 98% of the seats.
I think its important not to worry about not having a government
with a majority. Consensus governments work better because
everybody has to work together. There will be no big swings to the
left and right. If a government wants to pass a bill, they will
have to listen to all the parties before the bill will go through.
Majority governments only bring big divisions among the population;
its time to stop that.
