Submission Content
The present electoral system has to change. The first past the post system does not lead to representation based upon votes cast and contributes to disillusionment and cynicism about trhe poolitical process.

On the other hand,it is important to retain a simple process that is easy to understand. If the system is too complex, it will also confuse people and lead to endless discourse about its fairness.

To me the simplest system would be one in which a voter indicates his or her first and second choice candidates [AV]. If the votes for second-choice candidates are counted it will lead to the elected candidate being the person who is most acceptable to the most people. This will broadly increase voter satisfaction with the process rather than dividing the electorate into winners and losers.

I believe such a system would be less complex than proportional representation which is party-oriented rather than voter-oriented.

Thank you for the work you are doing.  I hope the concept outlined in this submission is one you will explore.
