I wish to add my vote in favour of British Columbia's switching
to a Mixed Proportional Representation [MMP]electoral system,
similar to that used in New Zealand. The results of this week's
federal election -- in which it was rare for any elected candidate
to have garnered more than 40% of the popular vote -- show that
public opinion in British Columbia is simply so diverse that the
current "first past the post" electoral system, and the skewed
results it produces, have become irrelevant. Proportional
representation is the only fair way to ensure that the values of
all British Columbians are fairly represented in the Legislature.
Let's implement a Proportional Representation system next year.
