I am delighted that the government has initiated the Citizens
Assembly on Electoral Reform. Unfortunately I was not able to
attend any of the public hearings, so I am sending my
‘input’ to you.
I am strongly in favour of Proportional Representation,
particularly the Mixed Member Proportional [MMP] system
for BC. I think the current system fails us in that the MLAs who
actually get to make all the decisions on how best to spend our tax
dollars, are not really reflective of the electorate: the popular
vote does not always correspond to who actually holds the power. I
would have more faith in the system if there was a more realistic
representation of the electorate.
