Submission Content
After spending many weeks gathering signatures for the Pro Rep Initiative in BC, and having researched rather thoroughly the various options available to British Columbians, I should like to offer this; that the Citizen's Assembly consider very carefully the advantages of a Mixed Member Proportional [MMP] system of electing MLAs. MMP brings fairness and balance to the electoral system via the number of seats obtained being relative to the percentage of the vote garnered. The already well established examples of such a system functioning in other parts of the world point out to us that we do not have endure the growing pains associated with a new, and untried venture, or one that is not as well known as MMP. As well, MMP allows for two members per constituency, thus permitting the potential for vastly improved representation of the citizens by more than one representative.
