I would just like to express my opinion on electoral reform in British Columbia.

Changing our current system to a mixed system with proportional representation and first past the post [MMP]would create a more economically stable province. In British Columbia we have seen flip flopping between governments that are focused on unions and labour (NDP) and governments that are focused on the economy, especially big business (BC Liberals and Social Credit). Business and labour are important issues and both parties should have input into how our province is run. However, switching the ideology of our government every election or two creates instability within our province. This drastic change of ideology creates waste as new governments alter or cancel projects that were started by the previous government

I believe that citizens should vote twice, once for the individual representative in their riding (similar to our current first past the post system), and once for the political party (proportional representation). On the second vote, where they vote for the political party, citizens should be able to select from a list their preference for which politicians in that party they would like to represent them. Having a system like this would lessen voter apathy. People would no longer "vote against" a politician or a party, but instead would feel free to vote their conscience.
