I support the MMP electoral system over the current system as well as over the proposed modified STV. I feel that when I vote for a minority party, our current system does not allow that vote a decent chance to count for anything. Knowing that many other people feel the same way, and knowing that these people have often voted for their second choice party simply so as to have a voice, I feel that our current system leads to a somewhat skewed distribution of votes. Were we to switch to MMP (a system that seems to be largely supported by the public, if not by politicians) I feel that all voters would be more fairly and accurately represented. Were we to switch to STV, I doubt that greater fairness would emerge, and I fear that the complex vote-counting system would leave very few people with a clear idea of just how their government had even been chosen. I am willing to accept larger riding sizes in order to allow for the MMP system to be put into practise.
