Term of Office

I have tried several times to access your web site, but evidently it is on that new system the current provincial government has introduced which I cannot access.

I am most anxious to say one critical thing to your Assembly. Please do not even consider proposing a regular date for elections. For one thing, you can see from the 2-year partisan battles currently going on in the United States how time-wasting that is. My country and my current province of residence absolutely MUST NOT introduce such a wasteful, money-ridden process here.

We in this more civilized country must have the current maximum 5-year term, both nationally and provincially, allowing for the removal of bad governments, because otherwise we -- the people -- will lose control over our governments, as the US public have over theirs. And even fewer people will turn out to vote than at our last federal election.

However, I do believe it is incumbent on any incoming government with such a disproportionate seat majority as the current BC one has to set a time for the next election; this should be enshrined in legislation.

Incidentally, I believe it is the Duty of all Canadian citizens to vote in both federal and provincial elections. Otherwise our governors become even farther away from the control and the wishes of those they are supposed to be working for.
