For 40 years in British Columbia I have been punctual at the
federal and provincial polls with the First By The Post system.
It as been discouraging to see so many governments formed through
votes against good candidates because of unhappiness with their
party.
I have seen good party platforms supported but not voted for in
fear that a larger bloc that one opposes will win. A case of voting
for the "lesser of two evils".
I am not satisfied that the First By the Post system is as fully
enriching to our democracy as other systems with which I have
become acquainted in the past several months.
Te Citizen's Assembly on Electoral Reform has assisted many of us
in clarifiying our views.
I am persuaded that among the many options presented that the Mixed
Member Proportional is the best option for British Columbia.
MMP provides geographic representation and close
member/constituency ties.
With MMP I will be able to use my vote to help place in government
representatives of the party whose policies I most support and
choose as well a diligent constituency represenatative.
Thank you for your attention and thank you for all of your
work.
