A proposal involving a variation of the Preferential Ballot system. [1 page]

Submission Content
I have a proposal involving a variation of the Preferential Ballot system. In the various discussions I've listened to I haven't heard this particular variation mentioned. Maybe it has and I've just missed it.

Anyway, my idea is to have a ballot where the voter would mark his/her preference 1, 2, 3 etc. When the votes are counted, all number 1s would be counted first and if any candidate got 50% + one, then that candidate would win. If not, then all the number 2s would be counted and added to the first count. Once again, if any candidate received 50% + one at this stage, they would win. If not, the 3s would be counted and added to the previous count and so on.

Note that there is no ranking of candidates or awarding of points other than simply counting the number of votes cast and no one is dropped from the list until a winner is declared. Simple and effective!

Thank you for your attention.
