Abstract
I favour the preferential ballot because I believe that the requirement of picking up support on the second round of counting will drive political parties to the centre.  Proportional representation may give too much power to parties.  [1 page]

I am of the strongest opinion that we should change our current method of voting. I favour the preferential ballot because I believe that the requirement of picking up support on the second round of counting will drive political parties to the centre.

My fear of proportional representation is based on the method used to select the representatives for the parties. I believe that if the choice of those members resides with the parties then we have a good chance of "back room politics" running the province.

I might be in support of "proportional representation" if the representatives for all parties were chosen by a primary system such as that used in the US. This would keep the choice of representative where it should be, in the individual ridings.
