Although I have been active politically in one way or another
all my life, in the last few years I have felt more and more
disenfranchised, as my MPs and MLAs, for the first time, actively
ignore my input. This is a new and discouraging development in
Canadian democracy; previously representatives were attentive to
constituents even if they were not of the same political stripe. It
is my hope that some kind of mixed member proportional [MMP]
representation (so that we have a shot at both political and
regional spokespeople) will increase the respect of politicans for
each other and for their constituents.
I think there are other problems with the party system, which I am
not sure Pro Rep will affect, but at least under Pro Rep I might
feel that I had the power of my vote.
