Governments should be a model of balance, and our current system
does not allow this. BC's government has been close minded since I
can remember (15 years) because the ruling party has had a vast
majority of seats while less than that of province wide support.
Why listen to others when you can do whatever you want? We either
have left or right, no centre, and that I believe has been holding
the progress of our society back. At least with a mixed member
proportional representation [MMP] system there will be less doubt
about who the people of BC support and force those in power to work
together for all. Citizens will feel more empowered with their
vote, and may become more involved with the workings of our
province. It is worth a try anyway, it's not perfect, but at least
it is an attempt at balance.
