The current electoral system is a weak democratic system that
does not provide decent representation of the electorate. It is our
historical "first past the post" system which has resulted in our
Province never electing a centrist government, and instead taken us
on a rollercoaster ride from the right to the left. And like any
carnival ride that you don't want to be on, it makes one sick.
Accordingly, I did not bother to vote in the last election as there
was no doubt who was going to win in my riding. I am in favour of
the MMP (New Zealand) system as I believe this will represent the
electorate and is workable. Since every vote will count under an
MMP system, I believe it will inspire interest in elections and
good government, and will help provide greater political stability.
Greater political stability will lead to more economic and social
stability.
