Abstract
I favour the adoption of a mixed member proportional [MMP] system. I realise there is no “perfect” system, but of all the ones I have studied, this offers the most balanced representation in my estimation. [2 pages]

First I would like to thank you and congratulate you on taking part in such a true exercise in democracy. I hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to make a real change in the way British Columbia is governed well into the future.

I have personally experienced that feeling of “having lost my vote” in many elections. As discouraged as I have felt at times, I have never missed a chance to vote since my 21st birthday in 1961.

Our “first past the post” system leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. It can give a party with less than 40% of the vote  a “majority” government and one with 20%  no representation.

I have studied other systems over the past few years and would really recommend that you encourage the adoption of a mixed member proportional [MMP] system where each voter gets to vote for his or her local representative and then one vote for the party of our choice. I realise there is no “perfect” system, but of all the ones I have studied, this offers the most balanced representation in my estimation.

I thank you for reaching out for real input and would suggest that if you have not already had a connection with the “Free Your Vote – Pro Rep Society” that you may take advantage of all the research and information they have gathered over the past few years.

I wish you great success in this venture and look forward to the day when we can truly say that every vote in B.C. counts !!
