Abstract
MMP allows people both to make strategic votes and have their true views reflected; an even better choice for voters would result if the party lists were open in order to allow voters to select a preferred candidate. [1 page]

I prefer the MMP system. It allows people both to make strategic votes and have their true views reflected without having to throw away their votes. MMP maintains local representation while making overall representation fairer. It is preferable to STV because it is less complicated and adversarial and because under STV, ridings would have to be too large in order to ensure proportionality. Stability under MMP can be achieved by having a threshold for smaller parties, such as 5%. Finally, although it would be a bit more complicated, a better choice for voters would result if the party lists were open in order to allow voters to select a preferred candidate.
