I am aware that a Mixed Member Proportional
[MMP] system elects individuals to government in a
superior and more democratic way. Superior because, immediately, a
wider spectrum of voters needs are served and democratic because,
immediately, more parties are given their fair share of the
votes.
When this more representative form of government is in place, more
people will vote, knowing there is a greater possibility their
needs and their point of view will be considered.
If we are truly looking for a more democratic system of government
then first we have to look for a more democratic system of voting
to achieve it.
I find it remarkable that 42% of British Columbians, basically,
have no voice in our present democratic system of election. Can
this really be democratic?
