Abstract
There should be an opportunity to vote for "none of the above" on the ballot. This allows for a chance to show no confidence in the government process or for the candidates who are put forward.  [1 page]

I would point the assembly to the new style of government that has been adopted by Nunavut.  Everyone runs as an independent and from those elected, a premier is chosen. The cabinet is also chosen in the same manner, I believe, or at least some independent method is used.

Their system is more democratic than what we have now. We do not chose a candidate based on qualifications but simply to put in a party. This same candidate is then programmed to follow the party line and is not encouraged to act independently to represent all the voters in a constituency.

If this does not fly, then I would prefer to be able to elect the premier and not just have the party and their supporters put forward a person that is not representative of the whole province.

I would also like to see improvements in the voting phase. We should have more clear guidelines on how one can have their vote count as being rejected as there is no "none of the above" on the ballot. This allows for a chance to show no confidence in the government process or for the candidates that are put forward. A new election would have to take place if this vote reached a certain point.
