I would like to put in a word for proportional representation
[PR]. Being a member of the Green Party, I faithfully cast my vote
every election, thinking to myself, "Well, hopefully people will
see the growing number of votes for this party, and know we're out
there, and will endeavour to find out more, etc, etc." But I also
think to myself, "What effect will this vote have in terms of
getting my (our) voice heard in government?" If we'd had some form
of ProRep for the 2001 election, the result would be having MLAs
who reflect my (our) needs. The Green Party won 12% of the vote
that year, but no seats, due to the outdated and unfair system.
