Please consider the following two options:
-
Change the voting from the current plurality method, where the
winning candidate just needs to get more votes than the next
candidate, regardless of percent of the total popular vote, to the
majority method [AV], where the winning candidate HAS to get 50% +
1 vote of the overall popular vote. This method would ensure that
the winning candidate truly gains the majority of the Popular Vote.
Under the current method, practically every sitting MLA might have
achieved 30-40% of the popular vote to gain office, despite being
opposed by the majority of voters; or,
-
Change the current electoral seat system to a proportional seat
system, where, the seats occupied in the Legislature are by
proportion of the voting results. That is, if one party achieves
25% of the popular vote, then they are awarded a corresponding 25%
of the seats on the Legislature.
Thank you for considering these options.
