SUBMISSIONS FROM THE PUBLIC
Members of the public sent to the Assembly a total of
1,603 public submissions during the 13 months ended 27
September 2004. And you can access them all lower down on this
page.
Incidentally, the numbers on the submissions appear to show that
there are 1,669 of them. After allowing for blanks, duplications
and those submissions that were later withdrawn by the people who
sent them, the real total is 1,603. Unfortunately, we cannot
renumber the submissions to reflect that.
If a posted submission is dated after 27 September, that date
refers to the date the submission was processed and posted to the
website, not the date it was received.
To help you navigate through the 1,603 submissions received from
the public, here are:

submissions
-

available as an Excel
spreadsheet (472KB) or as a

A mixed member proportional (MMP) system is recommended coupled
with a ranked voting system (based on points) to elect the members
from single member districts. This would ensure
accurate electoral representation. [2 pages]

A Mixed Member Proportional [MMP] system elects
individuals to government in a superior and more democratic way; a
wider spectrum of voters needs are served and more parties are
given their fair share of the votes. [1 page]

The UK has recently tried out all the main types of electoral
system, with MMP systems introduced for many elections. But MMP has
caused a number of problems and the Single Transferable Vote
[STV] is now seen to be the superior system. [4

I think a proportional representation system as is currently
used in New Zealand [MMP] will stregthen our democracy. The system
itself encourages collaborative decision-making for the highest
good of the majority of citizens. [1 page]

MMP allows people both to make strategic votes and have their
true views reflected; an even better choice
for voters would result if the party lists were open in order to
allow voters to select a preferred candidate. [1 page]
