Knowledge Network promotes Assembly
On April 1, Knowledge Network began broadcasting a short vignette featuring the Citizens’ Assembly.  The piece, which runs just over three minutes, encourages British Columbians to actively participate in the process, beginning with the public hearings in May and June.

Coming to a TV screen near you …
Hansard TV (sometimes known as the Legislative Channel) will broadcast plenary sessions from all six weekends of the Assembly’s meetings which took place January through March.  The broadcasts are scheduled for 5-11pm (PDT) on these dates:
April 13, Weekend #1
April 14, Weekend #2
April 15, Weekend #3
April 16, Weekend #4
April 23, Weekend #5
April 30, Weekend #6

Public hearings
The Assembly's 160 members are anxious to hear your opinions on electoral reform and invite you to attend one of the 49 public hearings they will hold in May and June.

You can also encourage friends and neighbours to attend meetings and join the conversation. The more British Columbians engage in the dialogue, the better equipped the Assembly will be to make an informed recommendation.

This is your chance to help shape BC's electoral system.   Find out how to sign up in advance to make a presentation to a specific hearing. Everyone is very welcome to participate in a meeting, but advance sign-up assures you of a spot on the agenda.

Resources available
The Assembly’s Preliminary Statement to the People of BC just arrived from the printers.  The document has been posted to our website for several weeks, but now you can request a printed copy by calling our office at 1-866-667-1232.

Other resources you may wish to access – either on our website or by calling our office – include:
• A series of 14 fact sheets summarizing key aspects of the learning materials provided to the Assembly in January, February and March
• A list of public hearing, including venues
• Application forms for making presentations at public hearing

Preliminary Statement translated
To allow as many British Columbians as possible to participate in the dialogue on electoral systems, the Assembly’s Preliminary Statement to the People of BC is now being translated into Chinese and Punjabi.  In addition, since Canadians across the country are interest in BC’s Citizens’ Assembly, we are translating the document into French.  These translations will be posted to our website and mailed on request.

Members in the community
Although the Assembly is not currently meeting, members have been active in their communities: speaking, engaging the media and publicizing the upcoming public hearings.

If you’d like to have an Assembly member speak to your group, please contact Marilyn at 1-866-667-1232 or mjacobson@citizensassembly.bc.ca.
