03-DEC-2004 - Assembly chair Jack Blaney speaks to a luncheon meeting of the Rotary Club of Vancouver Arbutus. Please note: This event is open only to Rotarians and their guests. The luncheon starts at 12:15 p.m., and Jack will speak between 1:00 and 1:30 p.m.

22-NOV-2004 - Citizens' Assembly chair Jack Blaney takes part in a panel discussion on electoral reform, 10 a.m. - noon, at Kwantlen University College, 12666 - 72nd Avenue, Surrey. Open to the public; admission free. For location, look for signs on campus for the Third Age Learning program.  Also on the panel: Nick Loenen, director of Fair Voting BC (http://www.fairvotingbc.com/).

STV workshop at UVic

17-NOV-2004 - Assembly members Wendy Bergerud and Diana Byford take part in a workshop on "To STV or not to STV", arranged by the Environmental Law Centre at the University of Victoria. It will include a mock election using STV. The event begins at noon in the Fraser Building, Room 152, at UVic. It's open to the public; admission free.

David Wills on radio

15-NOV-2004 - Assembly member David Wills will be answering questions on radio station CFRO (Co-op Radio) Vancouver, starting at 6 p.m. The show is called "The Rational" and airs from 6-7 p.m. CFRO is at 102.7 on the FM dial, or you can listen live online at http://www.coopradio.org/listen/index.html

Fifth deliberation weekend (Day Two)

14-NOV-2004 - Assembly members wrap up the fifth weekend of their "Deliberation Phase", leading to a final report that must be produced by December 15. Meetings take place at the Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue, 580 West Hastings Street, Vancouver. The agenda today runs from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. If further meetings are necessary after today, they will be held Nov. 27-28. Please watch this website for announcements.

Ken Carty on Rafe Mair show

10-NOV-2004 - Ken Carty, the Assembly's director of research, is a guest on the Rafe Mair radio show on CKBD AM600, Vancouver. Ken will be on the air live starting at 9:30 a.m., and will explain the new STV electoral system being recommended to the people of B.C. by the Assembly members.

Forum on public engagement

10-NOV-2004 - Assembly chair Jack Blaney, and Gordon Gibson, founding architect of the Assembly, take part in a public forum on "What Leaders Need to Know about Citizen Assemblies". This is part of the three-day Summit on Citizen Engagement being staged November 10-12 by the Whistler Forum for Dialogue. The evening runs from 7:30 - 9:30 at the Morris J. Equal Voice BC meeting

08-NOV-2004 - Citizens' Assembly members, including Shoni Field, have been invited to address a meeting of Equal Voice BC - a group concerned about Canadian politics and particularly interested in seeing more women elected to office in Canada. The meeting will focus on the Assembly process and recommendation, as well as the implications of the STV system for women and politics in BC.  It is on Monday, November 8th, 6:30 - 8:30pm at the Downtown YWCA, 535 Hornby Street, Vancouver.  RSVP by Friday, November 5th to infobc@equalvoice.ca
