single member plurality system (SMP)

This electoral system is based on single member districts , with successful candidates being elected if they win the most votes in their electoral districts.  This electoral  system is the one currently used in British Columbia to elect members to the legislative assembly .  See also  first past the post ; majority ; plurality .
