constitutional conventions

Constitutional conventions are accepted practices which supplement or modify the provisions of formal constitutional documents .  It is a constitutional convention, for example, that the premier of British Columbia is a member of the legislative assembly , and that the lieutenant governor only dissolves parliament on the advice of the premier. See Constitution Act (British Columbia).
