Having studied the issue of electoral reform for BC (and other countries) for the past 2 years, I feel strongly about wanting our province to adopt a mixed member proportional [MMP] representation method of voting. Ideally the Citizens Assembly would vote for this method in 2005, and we could see it used by 2009. To continue with the "first-past-the-post" method is simply no longer relevant to our democratic aspirations of people who want to contribute to society. It appears that other countries which have adopted the mixed-member pro-rep method have realized a better voter turnout and a lessening of gender imbalance in politics. I also believe strongly that young people in BC need to see a more progressive method of voting, so that they feel their vote will really count for what they believe.
