I support a mixed member proportional [MMP] format with open party lists for the second (party) vote.

I believe there should not be a threshold number of votes for a party (or candidate) to win a seat because I don't think ANY vote should be wasted.

Strong local and regional representation is essential, as is a system which promotes long term planning and stability. Government should behave as stewards of our public resources, not as brokers, for the benefit of the people and our descendants.

Voters should have the opportunity to list their votes by preference  and the legislature should have the voices of small minorities heard in its theatre. Without these changes already rampant mistrust and disillusionment will render our current system worse than useless, our population angry and unstable. I also think there should be some measures of accountability to governments and elected individuals who misrepresent themselves during elections and undertake unmandated projects such as selling or dismantling crown assets.

Kudos to all of you at the Assembly. I wish you well at your all important task.
