Abstract
I urge the Assembly to adopt a Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) voting system for BC because a party gets a share of seats in proportion to its share of province-wide vote and the system retains local representation. [1 page]

I favour and urge you to adopt a Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) voting system for BC for the following reasons:

  • a party gets a share of seats in proportion to its share of province-wide vote
  • it retains local representation.
Let's not go the STV route, as it is unfair, complicated in terms of vote-counting and ranking of candidates (which I wouldn't want to do), not proportional, especially in ridings with few members, and leads to more competitive politics.

I am really tired of never having my vote count, even when the party I vote for garners 12%, 16% of the general vote. For thirty years I have never been represented! It makes me feel like giving up on voting.

Let's go the New Zealand way.
