I would like to give my support to the the New Zeland model of
proportional representation [Mixed Member Proportional, MMP]. I
think this is the best way to give everyone in the Province a say
in how government is run.
I've voted for the NDP in the past but they do not represent my
values. A lot of people don't vote because they don't want to vote
for the two big parties and they know that their vote for a smaller
party will just be wasted because small parties will not get a seat
in the legislative assembly.
Last election, I voted Green; they won 13% of the vote and not one
seat. This is a real shame because a lot of people have no one
representing them. I want my voice heard. I think we need a base
line of 5% for a party to get a seat but I think, once this is
done, so many more people will vote we will no longer have a party
with 58% of the vote and 98% of the seats.
I think its important not to worry about not having a government
with a majoity. Concensus governments work better because everybody
has to work together. There will be no big swings to the left and
right. If a government wants to pass a bill, they will have to
listen to all the parties before the bill will go through. Majority
governments only bring big divisions among the population its time
to stop that.
