Quite simply, I would like to express my strong support for a system of proportional representation [PR]. From the reading I have done, the system which seems best to serve the people at large, to prevent a tyranny of the majority, and to lead to the fullest and most open representation is a Mixed Proportional Representation [MMP] system. The existing system clearly fails to represent the people of B.C. The fact of two members of the opposition representing the much larger proportion of B.C's citizenry is a case in point. This situation, to the disadvantage of the NDP at the moment has worked in an opposite manner in the past.

My attention has been drawn to the Single Transferable Vote system. As it has been explained to me, this system is very problematic. In the first place its complexity is contrary to the principles of fairness -- fairness must be seen to be enacted, and the STV system makes its own selections difficult to understand. It is complicated, and such complication does not lead to sufficient advantages over other systems. It is difficult to understand, and this difficulty will only add to the sense of disenfranchisement that is already a large problem in B.C. politics.
