I became a big fan of proportional representation after watching
my oldest daughter study different political systems during first
year of university. Although she would never consider herself very
political, I had seldom seen such excitement and
interest in a topic like proportional representation.
She saw hope for such a system, and her generation. I am excited to
hear that your Assembly has found it very interesting, although I
realize you haven't made up your mind yet. But for me, the most
important reason to choose PR is to re-engage our youth
and stop the cynicism that seems to come with the 'first past the
post' system whether it is here in BC or Canada. I realize that
some people might say that the public is not that interested in PR
because we're not flocking to meetings or websites, but I have to
say, that for many of us it does represent real hope.
And I'm very grateful for your contribution to this very
important work. I think one of the most important questions we need
to address is 'how to increase voter participation'. I
think PR will do this. Keep up the good work.
