Abstract
I believe the MMP system will best serve the people of BC. Some sort of proportional representation is absolutely required. The other key is to keep the system and the voting process simple and easy to understand. [1 page]

I fully support the process that the Citizen's Assembly is undertaking. I believe that electoral reform is vital to ensuring that our system of government serves the people, rather than handing political parties free and undeserved reign of the province.

The way our system works now, voters are often forced to vote strategically by voting for a party that has the best chance of defeating the voter's least favoured candidate. This is fundamentally wrong -- voters should feel free to vote for the candidates that they feel will best represent their interests, and they should be rewarded with some sort of representation in Victoria.

The 2001 BC election proved how undemocratic our system is. I believe the process that you are undertaking will revitalize our democracy, increase voter turnout and hold governments to be more accountable.

I hope that our federal electoral system will go through the same process. This should be the biggest single issue in the current federal election campaign, however I do not hear it being discussed at all. Although it was touched on briefly in the broadcast of the National on CBC tonight, I think that the Citizens' Assembly needs to get more of the media's attention to hightlight the cause. (Exactly how - I do not know).
