I would like to express my support for a proportional
representation system, similar to New Zealand [MMP]. I believe it
to be the fairest system as well as relatively straight-forward. We
must be aware that the new system needs 60% of the voter support
and a system already proven in other countries similar to our own
will stand more chance of acceptance with the public. New Zealand's
successful conversion to a PR system from a first-past-the-post
system is the most obvious example which would appeal to Canadians
(who are notoriously tentative in accepting change, particularly in
politics). In addition, my understanding is that this system has
produced a higher proportion of women representatives and I believe
this to be a crucial factor as well. Our wonderful planet needs
feminine stewardship desparately (a prime example of thinking
globally, acting locally).
This is a wonderful opportunity to make a huge change for the
better; let's not blow it.
