The world has seen dramatic changes since the present electoral
system was first introduced. I passionately believe that we need a
more democratic system that better represents today's
society. A mixed system of locally elected candidates
and party lists (see Germany) would produce more stable, thoughtful
governments and be truly democratic. It would also encourage people
to exercise their right to vote, since every vote counts.
I have voted in every election since I became a Canadian
Citizen, always knowing that my vote would make no difference to
the outcome of the election. Many poeple just stay home.
