As a rural resident I see resources and services increasingly
concentrated in large cities at the expense of small towns, so
local representation is essential. However, I often find that
neither of the leading parties is addressing my concerns. Under the
present system, a vote for a third party only serves to elect one
of the parties I don't want and my voice is lost. Proportional
representation would allow my voice to be heard, if only as a tiny
prick of conscience from a few seats. To reconcile these two needs,
a form of mixed member proportional representation
[MMP] is required.
